The idea of establishing an old age home was mentioned in the preamble of the constitution of VMFRC.

Old age is a sort of disease. When we, as doctors, accept this fact, the responsibility of caring for old age people lies on doctor community. The old age home should be considered as a natural extension of a hospital.

VHL has been running Matoshree old age home for over last 21 years. It was established in 1998, in association with social and welfare dept. Of Govt. of Maharashtra. Initially Govt. has provided 2 hectors of land on lease and about Rs. 60 lacs as construction fund. Needy senior citizens, of more than 60 years of age and deprived of help and care from family members are taken care of in the old age home.

It is situated near Village Arvi, just 5 kms. away from Latur on the road to Ambajogai. Vruddhashram comprises of 32 rooms of two different sizes with a kitchen and large dining hall. It accommodates on and average 60 grannies and grandpas. All basic amenities are provided in the rooms.

More than 10 employees remain in their service, round the clock. Expenses incurred by the management on account of monthly maintenance for smooth running of the Ashram, amounts to about Rs. 2.5 lac.

Many well-wisher and compassionate citizens offer regular donations in kind and cash to run the Ashram.
