With advances in technology, rapid progress in knowledge and development of new skills, it has become possible to tackle many cardiovascular diseases with good results. This branch of medicine is developing vary rapidly and everyday there is some addition of new thing. At VHL till 7 years back, cardio vascular section was not a separate department. It was a part of medicine department. We endeavoured to keep abreast of the developments in the subject and consequently the section was transformed into a separate hospital. The first cardiac critical care unit was set up in 1977 and 1st closed heart surgery was done in 1980 by Dr. Ashok Kanetkar. Thereafter, over the last 40 years, many Heart Surgeons and consultants have contributed to the cardiac work. The cardiac work started getting shape when cardiologist Dr. Gatagat joined VHL as a fulltime Cardiac consultant. A fully equipped Vivekanand cardiac super speciality hospital was started in 2012.

The accommodate this special branch a separate 3 storied building was constructed and all facilities of cardiovascular care were clubbed in it. Now it is recognized as Vivekanand Cardiac Hospital.

The hospital works to provide highest level of comprehensive cardiac care at very affordable price.

The hospital has the best infrastructure backed by a team of qualified and skilled full time cardiologist, cardio-vascular surgeon, cardiac anaesthetist and good nursing staff.

The unit has state of the art, high-end colour Doppler echocardiography machine with trans esophageal probe, computerised treadmill machine, ECG Holter monitoring system.

Interventional cardiology deals with treatment of cardiac disorders by means of catheter along with imaging devices. The hospital has “Philips flat panel high resolution cardiac catheterization Lab” for performing interventional procedures.

State of the art cardiothoracic surgery operation theatre deals with all types of cardiothoracic surgeries including Bypass surgery.

We have equally well equipped Cardiac ICU for Post-op management and other non surgical critical cases. All this set-up  enables the hospital to provide accurate cardiac care to all cardiac emergencies.
